The crash took place just before 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 2, northbound on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, reported the Westport Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived on the scene they found multiple vehicles involved and people walking around the roadway, so a second engine was added to the assignment for manpower, the department said.
Westport EMS, Westport Police and CT State Police also responded to the scene.
First arriving units found the highway already shut down by traffic between the Exit 42 off and on ramps, they added.
One of the vehicles was facing the wrong way, one received minor damage and the third sustained heavy damage to the rear, the department said.
A total of three patients were evaluated by Westport Fire and EMS personnel, with two patients transported to Norwalk Hospital by Westport EMS with undisclosed injuries. the department said.
The highway was closed for more than two hours.
